Warriors of Loamhedge by AdmYrrek Warriors of Loamhedge by AdmYrrek
I finished Brian Jacques' book "Loamhedge" of the Redwall series and took to sketching. This is what my sketching turned into. Besides the bushes, I'm very pleased with this one.

From left to right; Lonna Bowstripe, eventual Badgerlord of Salamandastron; Bragoon "Brag", once Skipper of Otters; and Sarobando "Saro".

Pencil

[Edit] Shit... I forgot to credit my stock models...

Hi there,

I decided to feature a few pieces of my “personal fav” folder, that were created with my stock photos and this is one of them. Have a look at the other works if you like: [link]

I admittedly still need to read this book, but then again I fell behind readying all the Rewall books probably shortly after Taggerung though I kept collecting the books in both hard and soft cover (I'm weird like that with my books). They all look great to me and make me want to find my copies of any of the Redwall series to reread them or in some cases read them for the first time.

It's too bad Brian Jacques is no longer with us. He was one of the authors that got me into reading, and I mean novel type reading not just reading in general.

Love this pic! Loamhedge was such a good book... one of the better Redwall storylines in my opinion :D If this is just a sketch to you, then you must me ridiculously talented, because this is amazing! Keep up the good work ;)

Beautiful job on this. I love how you've depicted them, but Brag seems to be going 'bleh' a little, especially compared to Saro and Lonna, who look like they're about to fight someone.

But I like it. ^^ I need to reread Loamhedge...

Very good! Although I think Brag looks a wee bit withered. I know he's old, but he looks so tired here. I see him as being old but incredibly tough.

But I very much like how you've drawn Lonna. Very good :)

Ah, I thought I recognised Lonna Bowstripe there! :D
Ignoring timelines, though, I thought the otter was Deyna, going by the kilt! :XD:

Anyway, I really love how you drawn this trio here... good old Bragoon and Saro! :w00t:
The attention to detail is amazing here. I love the shading and the fur!

This is good. Lonna looks...thinner than I expected a badger to be, but you captured Bragoon and Saro's age really well. They actually look old.

My only experience with Redwall was the animated show, the one that focused on Mathias. I haven't read any of the books.

Some more detail in the background couldn't help but the pencil work is really great.

*AWESOME*! You did a gorgeous job! :D :D :D I so envy you.

One critique: Lonna was supposed to be a lot bigger than Saro and Brag, but that's alright, it would've been too hard to fit them all in the pic that way. KUDOS! :)

hehe... yeah. Constraints of the page and all that. I tried to save it with him in a crouched, kneeling position, and still be taller than Brag, but eh...

I've always kinda wondered why Jacques never quite addressed the whole realistic size issue.

I suppose he was too lazy. Heh, I heard a joke that someone made about that, that Matthias was actually a lot bigger than Gingivere, so a giant mouse is riding a tiny cat... Heh heh.

Y'know, the book itself didn't really do much for me, but this drawing is awesome. I like the badger especially - great gesture and expression. Out of the three he seems the most alive. But all three are pretty dang sweet - nice fur texturing and SWEET cloth.

Aye. The books really aren't doing anything for me either. Since Jacques was my first favorite author I've been reading them since I was in 4th grade, but I really have grown way out of them. Despite the nostalgia, he is getting horribly formulaic and preachy of late. Kinda sad. Plus he's getting on my nerves more and more with his "specism". Aw well...

Thank you for the compliment and observations. Sorry its taken me so long to respond.
